What is Reiki?

Reiki is a non-invasive hands-on healing technique developed as a natural method of healing in Japan in the early 20th century by its founder Dr Mikao Usui. Today the Usui system of natural healing is practised all over the world. “Rei,” meaning universal and “Ki,” meaning life force energy (which flows through all living things) promotes a healthy flow of energy in and around the body, helping to clear blockages and release stagnant energy which can lead to physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

· Ease stress, tension and anxiety

· Calm the mind

· Balance the body’s energy

· Stimulate the immune system

· Enhance natural healing

· Help process grief and fear

· Improve sleep

· Aid meditative states

What happens during a treatment?

A traditional Reiki treatment is carried out in a relaxing environment with the recipient laying down comfortably on a couch. Reiki passes through all materials so there is no need to remove any clothing. The practitioner places their hands in a sequence of positions on or over the front of the body from head to toe to channel the Reiki energy. The client is asked to turn over onto their front halfway through the treatment to treat the back of the body, in the same way, from head to toe.

What does Reiki feel like?

Reiki may be experienced as tingling, heat, warmth, coolness, other sensations or nothing at all! Some experience a feeling of deep relaxation and peacefulness; others feel the body letting go of tension or old emotions. Some fall asleep, some feel nothing. It is not uncommon to observe old memories or fears coming to the surface to be released, sometimes causing tearfulness, this is normal! With regular treatments, Reiki can be a powerful and transformative experience.
